George to the Rescue Project
One of my most memorable projects during my time at MTD was our George to the Rescue project and being a part of the team that created this new space for Anastasia Pagonis.
At the time of this rescue, Anastasia was a 15-year-old swimmer who had recently lost her eyesight completely. Her bedroom and bathroom were two places she retreated to for comfort, but light sensitivity issues and the loss of her sight created hazardous conditions beyond the family’s control.
We were all hands on deck, designing a safe and refreshing bathroom that she could navigate independently, as well as a glamorous, tactile bedroom she could experience through her senses. Along with contributing to the strategizing and design process from start to finish, I also helped style the room for the final photoshoot and filming of the show, ensuring that every element reflected both beauty and function. We also surprised Tas with her own indoor endless pool to help her train on her journey to Tokyo 2020, where she went on to win multiple gold medals in the Paralympics for swimming and become a social media star!
This project was an incredibly rewarding experience and went on to win a Daytime Emmy Award.
